Along the Overseas Highway below the Conch Keys, lies the beautiful paradise known as Grassy Key. This is one of the northernmost islands in the chain that comprises the City of Marathon.
Grassy Key is host to many mom and pop style establishments and family resorts. Oceanside and bayside properties are featured along with private residences sprinkled throughout. Although sparsely populated, it was incorporated into The City of Marathon in 1999.
The Dolphin Research Center is one of many attractions located on this Key, and is popular with locals and tourists alike. The DLC provides education, rescue efforts, and research, while working cooperatively with the local school system to educate residents about the importance of protecting our native wildlife. Since 1984, this "dolphinarium" has been a haven for Bottlenose Dolphins and California sea lions.
The community is served by the Monroe County School system. Nearby schools include Stanley Switlik Elementary School and Marathon Middle High School.
You won't be at a loss for activities. Grassy Key features several small cafes, shops and other attractions in addition to wonderfully secluded beaches and innumerable natural attractions. The City of Marathon's Grassy Key is located between Mile Markers 57 and 60.
