Located at Mile Marker 85 near Islamorada, Windley Key is home to the Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park. This site was an important part of Florida's 20th century history as its Keystone, formed of Key Largo limestone and fossilized coral, was used in the construction of the Overseas Railroad. Today, visitors can tour the quarry and observe massive cross sections of the ancient coral. Visitors can stroll through five, self-guided tours to learn the unique history of this part of Windley Key.
